Gerard’s party went through the door to the catacombs and found
themselves on a small stone outcropping overlooking a pit of stumbling zombies. About halfway across the pit Grizzlegar saw a
column sticking out of the pit. When he
told Gerard his plan to jump across to the column, Gerard suggested the barbarian
should take his crossbow and shoot a rope back to the ledge. Grizzlegar jumped to the column but was
unable to secure the rope in any way so he gave up on this plan.
Pax decided to rebuke the zombies but when she did, the vampire escorts
disappeared as well. The group decided
to descend into the pit of zombies because the didn’t seem to be a threat.
Once they got past the pit, they were attacked by skeletons that had
been infected by some kind of worm creature.
The entire party was paralyzed and dragged off by the skeletons. Yesha
proved not to be much of fighter and Jerro soon grew tired of her screaming.
The vampires came back and helped Grizzlegar defeat the skeleton creatures,
but as the rest of party came to, they realized that there was something off
about Grizzlegar; his personality seemed to have change. He was much more calm than usual. The vampires told them that they would need a
key to open the next door and continue the search, but the key was broken into
several parts that would have to be found and put back together.
As the party searched, they came to realize that Grizzlegar seemed to
be impervious to the dangers of the catacombs and he only cared about doing the
vampires bidding. He soon recovered all
the key pieces and assembled them.
On the other side of door the key unlocked, they thought they had found
the heart they had been looking for.
Some sort of cultists were using the heart in a kind of ceremony, but
when Jerro threw a fireball at a cluster of the cultists, the heart and the
cultists disappeared. In the heat of
battle, Yesha had revealed herself to be a vampire and attacked Gerard who was
able to fend her off.
Gulthias reappeared and told them that the heart that had
vanished was a decoy. The real heart was
in a room they had already visited.
